No but he does (or will be told) have the landmarks the author used to get where he is. Kinda a word map.

Here are the landmarks that the message marks.

Folly's Canyon - named for the folly of the person who died trying to climb it
Folly's Waterfall - named for the folly of the person who fell off the canyon and over the falls.
Intrepid Cliffs - they make even the bravest scared of falling.
Toad Valley - this Valley croaks at night.
Footstool swamp - If you don't watch where you step, you will become a footstool for the next person.
Deadman's Lakes - Not safe for drinking
creeks - Found these far enough away from Deadman's lakes. should be safe for drinking.
river - creeks run into this river. Follow the river, maybe find a city.
pine forest - The river flows through a pine forest, that's the power of pinesol.
rolling hills - lots of hills, makes walking tiring.
mountains - a range of mountains i need to cross now, they don't look too hard.

This is from his town to the town you are leaving. It doesn't say anything about directions, just landmarks. All the named landmarks are from his perspective.

The closest mountains from here are half a day's journey west. Considering that the pouch was found between the town and those mountains, it is a good bet to start there.

Looks like Scifi is the leader of this expedition, at least for this segment of the trip. If the balls do not prove to be inert, then they might take shifts as well.

lol, okay then...well, I think we head for the mountains but mark stones or trees on the way so we can retrace our steps if we get lost

Scifi takes his team toward the mountains west of town. there isn't much of a road, so they forge their own trail through the brush. They make it half a day without incident. As you stop to rest a bit in a small clearing, you hear the sound of wolves snarling.

Do you want to ignore them, wait, or go hunting?

Mako thinks he hears food. The food growls at him. He doesn't think that it is odd that his food is growling at his stomach...

After a full night of wolves staring at pokeballs, Sci and Angel emerged and said "Hi wolves!" What do you want to do?

Looks like the wolves are tired of you standing next to their hole in the ground. They want inside to get back to their pups. They attack sci and angel!

One wolf jumps for angel's throat.

Another wolf tries to tackle Sci.

There appear to be 3-4 other wolves in the grass and nearby trees.

Angel avoided the leaping wolf with a quick jump to the side.

Sci's wolf didn't hit him, seems his cape was fluttering and the wolf attacked that instead.
