NS Music Game Round 2
__________________________________RULES_______________________________________
This is round 2 of the NS version of the game music competition originally created by zexen. All you have to do is guess which games these 10 songs belong to. 1 point is given for every correct guess, 0.5 points for guessing the series, but not the game itself. No points are deducted for guessing wrong. In the event a song is used in more than 1 game, the full point will be awarded for naming any game it is from.
Send your guesses in a PM to me. Please DO NOT post them in the topic for everyone to see. Feel free to guess only the ones you know; however, a wrong guess locks you out from further guesses on that song. I will post a score league table every time I get a PM. Don't spoil it. Results for all rounds will be collated here.
_______________________________ROUND INFORMATION_______________________
This round's theme is Arcade Games. This means that all of the games in this round also existed at one point in arcades. However, all music is collected from the home releases of these games, and as such, may sound different from the arcade version.
The file can be found here.

Well, we have a few guesses in, and still a tie for first. Does anyone have what it takes to dethrone our co-champions for this round?

It is a lot harder, that's for sure. Did you even guess? You should definitely know one of those.

Only 2? Then you've got a bit better guessing ability than I...

That would be something weird with the coding. I saw it screwed up after my last edit, and went in, but the code is still correct- something is rendering it incorrectly. I'll see if I can force something on it to work. (HTML being on might make for an easy fix...)
Oh, and I came to this thread because I wanted to announce that I plan on closing this up in about 24 hours, give or take. Those who need to get their guesses in please do so before this.

Screw it, I give up on it. I've tried HTML, manual UBB code, scripted UBB code, and a raw link, and now it's doing whatever it feels like to the URL now. (And it's also nice to know that there's a word censor running, too...)

Re: NS Music Game Round 2
Hrm... not too good on the scores here, but time is up, so I'm not going to waste any more time, here are the answers-
1. I'm glad I didn't start with what I thought was the easiest like normal, since nobody got this. I just opened with one of the random stages from Mortal Kombat 3.
2. Okay, I anticipated this one to be easier; it was one of the 2 that was guessable even without playing any video games! I accepted, for the full point, either TMNT 2 or TMNT The Arcade Game, which was the subtitle given to the arcade cabinet, corny as it may seem.
3. A little tougher than the traditional music from the game used in a prior round, this was Dhalsim's theme from Street Fighter 2.
4. Nobody got this one? I'll admit that Crusin' USA isn't exactly the most popular game these days, but it was considered part of what would define the Ultra 64 (complete with U64 logo).
5. I did think this was an easier one, guess not? Those who follow the Japanese releases would know this as DDR 3rd Mix, though I also accepted just calling it Dance Dance Revolution, which was the entire title given to the first US release of the game.
6. Conversely, I expected Donkey Kong to be harder than it was. I figured the monotony of it would have made it harder, but I was proven wrong here!
7. The other one guessable without knowledge of video games, this was the jazzy theme found later in the NES version of Spy Hunter. It also contained the notes from the beginning, so I chose this one.
8. Tekken 3, anyone? Fighting games were fairly big in the arcades, so I had quite a few of them. Some did better than others...
9. Another one I thought would be harder, specifically, harder than #4. An older racing game, Outrun was selected for this piece.
10. Okay, this was a trick question. Arcades, back in the day, also had pinball machines. (Some still do, but they're going the way of the dodo.) And while arcade pinballs don't have music, some home ports did. Such was the case here, with Pinbot representing the dying ball-and-flipper.

Why did number 7 sound familiar when I never heard of Spy Hunter?

Spy Hunter theme was also Peter Gunn's theme. That is likely the case.

Never played more than one MK game, check.
Never played DDR, check.
Never played Tekken, check.
Pinbot? Oh, a pinball game... check!
Cruisin' USA, I should have gotten that one though because I used to rent that game when I was a kid! At least I knew it was from a racing game, just didn't know which one.
Oh wellz!

Re: NS Music Game Round 2
I never played much MK, let alone MK3... so i wouldn't have guessed that, though, i did know it was a 16bit fighter.
i got 2 and 3.
I didn't think of Cruisin'... It had racing type music but i was confusing it with a western... bah.
I didn't play any of the DDRs, except Mario DDR on the gamecube (once). But the music did sound familiar.... And i think i might have looked into a DDR but not 3rd mix...
I got 6 and 7.
Didn't guess right on 8... i didn't know all pieces were from the intro of each song. But i did guess a fighter... just not the right one.
I got 9 on a hunch of 16bit racing. I was right!
I never played many pinball games, in the arcade or at home... I do have Nintendo's Pinball.

For that DDR one, I guessed Mushihime-sama (that hardcore manic SHMUP). It did sound like it could come straight from a boss fight. o_O
