DLC................
Can someone please explain to me why so many fans boys and journalist are so concerned about DLC, before a game comes out. That's like saying I am really concerned you are going to give me all the content you have made/planned and I was wondering if you could hold off on making/including some stuff so I could pay you more money later.
There is after the fact stuff I understand. Like I understand buying more car models for a game as they come out, or maybe some bonus level for filler between games or even the extra GTA content. But as far as I'm concerned there better not be any significant DLC for at least 6 months. If there is it should have been in the game to begin with. Why oh why to do some want to be screwed so hard? Do these people not work for money, does it grow on a trees.
I don't want to be screwed on content or quality. I want to buy a game on disc that is complete, I loved the new Prince of Persia but I did feel a little jipped when I had to pay money for DLC to get the final ending, WTF you didn't finish your game."but its just like buying the directors cut." No its not. In that case the director got screwed by the studio and you are getting a different version of the movie. In this case you are getting screwed and only getting a continuation of the ending. Its like had lord of the rings cut out the end summary and asked you to pay more for it alone.
Who here also thinks the fanboys are getting the wool pulled over their eye by believing DLC to be so important?

Re: DLC................
DLC is just a way for the game makers to make even more money, It annoys me as ive already payed £40 for a game, then I have to pay another £8 to get a map pack, in total Call of Duty World At War cost me £64 (game+3 map packs), so the game company not only made money off me for buying the game, but an additional £24 for DLC, I wish they wouldnt do it as I dont allways have the cash to get DLC, somehow I cant see them stopping though, sadly.

DLC isnt important, but if you like a game you want to get the most out of it, unfortanatley you have to pay for the DLC to do that.

Re: DLC................
Meh. I think DLC is stupid and unnecessary. Why would any new game have DLC right away.... If so they should have included it in the game in the first place. Maybe 6 months or so down the road start to make new stuff. Even then I think its pretty dumb.

Re: DLC................
I can see many reasons for DLC. I find it annoying when developers take out content just to release it as DLC *Cough* Tomb Raider: Underworld *cough*. Or when the publisher charges for something that is already on the disc like the Katamari levels, extra SFIV costumes, and Resident Evil 5 versus mode. But with other games it works really well, games like LBP, Forza, and Halo 3 all of which have a kind of a "play, build, share" quality to them.
Now it also seems that publishers are releasing free DLC at the launch of games for early adopters, games like The Saboteur, Gears of War 2, and Dragons Age: Origins all had a code inside them to download DLC at launch. This also gives people reasons to buy games new instead of used which I wholeheartedly support!
I am sure there are often instances that content had to be removed because of the time of the release. Banjo-Kazooie went from six worlds to five because Rare ran out of time, and had to cut the final world out. They then released it as DLC.
What really annoys me is Microsoft. They have a policy that any download over a certain size cannot be free. So some DLC may have been free to begin with, but being too large might have forced them to charge for it. Some of the examples are Valves DLC, and I believe the Lost and the Damned. There may be more, but those are the only ones that spring to mind

Re: DLC................
I heard that Rockstar wanted it to be free. They already got $50 million out of Microsoft. They had nothing to loseAlasted wrote:dsister wrote:... Re: DLC................
I agree with most of what you said in regard to Forza, LBP and Halo 3. I only agree with the Banjo statement because it had a low price to begin with which you could equate to buying an unfinished product.
That screws those without proper internet connection. I would rant on used games but I'll just save that for another time. Just know the a used market in anything does not harm it, just like used cars.

Re: DLC................
But those DLC's weren't necessary for the gameplay. They were just benefits. A strip scene, extra character and armor, and multiplayer maps(Which if you don't have proper internet then there isn't a problem). They were just neat benefits =)Kenzomatic wrote:I agree with most of what you said in regard to Forza, LBP and Halo 3. Something else that annoys me is exclusive pre-order DLC. Or exclusive DLC with the limited edition. I missed out on two DLCs for Batman, because of that
