Post a local landmark
Every town has one; that iconic figure that is used in fliers to advertise the city you live in or just to represent it on official documents for the city departments.
So what is yours?
Here's mine:
It's the acorn clock tower. Probably the most interesting thing about this landmark is that it is actually a replacement. An earthquake happened in 2002 that knock the building down and claimed the lives of two women working in the shop beneath it. These were the only deaths of the 6.5 quake. Also....my dad reshingled the peak when I was just a wee tot. Scary work.

The King Matyas statue. Even tough he was a hungarian king he stands in the center of our city, which is now part of Romania ( Cluj-Napoca ). This city was part of Hungary until 1918, when Hungary lost it to Romania during the Trianon treaty. Then they got it back, just to loose it again after WW2.
Tough work had started on it in 1982, it was only finished in 1902, 20 years later. Even if its one of the newest historical monument ( Napoca existing even BC ) its arguably the most popular one.

Pfft... you guys got nothing... me ??? I only live near the BIGGEST GOTHIC CATHEDRAL IN THE WORLD !!! This thing is freaking amazing... I´m not big into organized religion but this thing is amazing... Cologne was most important christian landmark in the middle ages north of the alps, in 1164 the relict coffin of the three holy wise men was given to Cologne as as present after being taken from Jerusalem during one of the early crusades, the Arch Bishop of Cologne decided to build a new cathedral for the mass of religious pilgrims coming to the city (even today six million people visit the cathedral each year). Unfortunately during the late middle ages Cologne lost much of its economic wealth since trade on the Rhine river became less important compared to international trade over the oceans... also Gothic churches had gone out of style... 1880 the cathedral was finally finished and fore some year it was the worlds tallest building (154 meters) it also still has the biggest freely swinging bell in the world. Its quite the amazing building...
Oh and here is the coffin of the holy wise men...

Re: Post a local landmark
No i like where I live, we have some local minor league spot teams, good town and its in a great state
However all the historic landmarks tend to focus on destroying the native Americans
And or death
I mean one of the biggest claims to fame we have is this is the resting place for Johnny Appleseed…..that one I am not to ashamed of
