Help running games on my PC
What'up guys?
Would you kindly help me out with this? Take a look at my pc:
GeForce FX 5500, 256 MB video card
Intel Pentium 4 1.60 GHZ processor
1024 ram
Well, i'm no real expert at this, but i think that's all that matters, right? If you need more specs i'll give it pronto
I recently bought Team Fortress 2 on Steam, and even though my pc seems to fit in the minimum requirements, the game is unplayable, even on the lowest settings
I wonder if i need to upgrade my PC or it's probably something on it's software?
Thanks in advance
(Yeah, copy + pasted from VGC, but i need help guys, i mean, i spent $20 on TF2, lol)

Re: Help running games on my PC
unplayable how? the frame rate is too slow? well your PC should be at the very edge of the minimum requirements, but even the minimum requirements are... well slow.
From the wiki:
System requirements
Minimum:
1.7 GHz processor,
512 MB RAM,
DirectX 8 video card,
Internet connection
Recommended:
3.0 GHz processor,
1 GB RAM,
DirectX 9 video card[7]
So your CPU falls just outside the range... but that shouldn't make the difference between playable and not... then again... if you have any cash to burn you can build a modest computer for about 350-400.

Re: Help running games on my PC
When i'm alone (let's say, i created a map) the framerate is pretty slow already
When i'm at that mess of bullets, trying to fix my sentry, the framerate is infuriating, lol, it's not fun to play like this
You think i should just flat out buy a new pc?

Re: Help running games on my PC
I think you should consider a few things.
1 - What do you need the computer for? (outside of gaming)
If it needs good specs get a new computer
2 - When did you plan on upgrading to a new computer next?
If it was soon then do it now.
3 - How much money can you spend/How confident are you about building a computer?
If you can spend around $500 then go ahead
4 - If you said no to 1 and 2 then just get an Xbox. If you don't want to spend much and just want to game get an Xbox.
NOTE: PC video games are almost always cheaper by at least $10. Buildig a computer is easy when you know what your doing, all the componets need to be compatable or you will waste lots of money. I'm not sure how region codes and other things effect wher you live but something to consider.
Hope this helped

Re: Help running games on my PC
Well, I answered in VGC, I suggested just getting a new PC. Be careful with the prices they suggest, if you wanna get those prices you'll have to import it (which I'm not sure howe you do it plus the taxes), if you get it in Brazil it's gonna be much more expensive (assuming similar prices as Argentina

Re: Help running games on my PC
The PC is mostly OK, but I'd ask for a better graph card, that one doesn't look like it's gonna last much more than a couple of years. But for now, it's good

Re: Help running games on my PC
That one doesn't look too good either. Look for a card whose second number is as close as possible to 9 (like a 8800) and GTX if possible.
Check this table (my recommendation is a GeForce 8800 GTX if you can afford it)

Re: Help running games on my PC
So, i went to another store as i said this monday, and here is what i have:
Intel G31 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33 GHZ Processor
4GB Ram
GeForce 9600 GT 512MB Video Card
The 9800 GTX and 8800 GTX video cards are too expensive, and i'll check the prices on the 8800 GT both 512MB and 1GB, probably tomorrow. I'll get a 9600 GT with 1GB if i can't find the 8800 GT
So, a 8800 GT 512MB is still superior to a 9600 GT 1GB?
