It would be a travel companion, lots of web surfing, tons of dvd play back, and very lite gaming
As in CS and maybe CSS (sorry counter strike), I would also probably put my snes emulator as well as my plays station one so I could play some of the games I have (all legal copies—well as legal as they can be)
I would also try to get gimp on it and do some work with that (it’s the program I use for the comics I draw)
As far as travel I will still tend to plug it in but I tend to go away for the weekends and would like to be able to pack it up for the ride
Any opinions?
Also it is only going to cost 500

Re: Thinking about a laptop!
Meso there are things to consider when buying a laptop, for instance, the increased size of the screen. While it is nice to view, it drains more battery quicker than a smaller screen. Also the Physical size of the laptop, is it too big to be comfortable in your lap? It seems that the specs check out just fine on both though. The 500 price tag is hard to pass up though... Still........ a red flag going off for me is the brand.... COMPAQ = COMCRAP... HP isn't too much better but better than the crappy company/brand they bought and saved from going completely broke....
PS. the Office 2007: Home and Student is just a trial.... after 60 days... cablooie unless you pay $100 extra for the license.

Re: Thinking about a laptop!
Well as far as quality I am not to worried about break down and such as long as the warranty is good, and the company I work for is a hp reseller so the tec guys we have could work on my machine for free with out voiding warranty
Also the office stuff I am not worried about I have a copy already thru my wife’s school (she gets a special that equals out to her getting one student copy for 10 bucks)
And the battery as far as I can find is a 6 cell and rated for over 20 hours (they put it at like 2 hours and 40 mins so I figure it is really like 2 hours
But that isn’t a real big concern b/c we have car adapter, and will never really go far from an outlet (but we travel to both sides of the family and it would be nice to have a machine I can take with me with out the hassle of moving a desktop)
What I am really curious about is whether 100 buck is worth the extra stuff b/c I really don’t seem to lose anything just gain a bit

Re: Thinking about a laptop!
I finally decided on the Hp notebook above, but here is the twist
I walk back to electronics and there right next to the model I want is another hp for the same price
Well I wanted to make sure I was getting the best deal I could (this thing has to last me at least 5 years)
So I start to check over the specs
Welll I grabbed it and here is why
Hard Drive-same
Webcam, hdmi, usb, keyboard layout, dvd burner, battery, even looks ----the same
Video Card—same
Here were the kickers
Processor---this one came with a 2.1 instead of the 2.0 clock speed
Ram—this one came with 4 instead of 3 (and has vista 64 bit)
The only hit I took was to the screen size…a whole .4 inch!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now I have myself a good laptop and all YEAH ME!!!!!!
