How to join XMPP/Jappix Chat

Firstly, go here. [LINK to Jappix page]
(or click the "NS Jappix Chat" button at the left side of the screen)

How to register!

1. Click the REGISTER button
   
2. Choose your username and password
   
3. Re-enter password
   
4. Click the HERE WE GO! button
   

How to join chat!

1. With your newly made username click the LOG IN button on the main page of chat.
   
2. Enter the correct information in the slots and check the REMEMBER ME box so you don't have to worry about these two steps again.
   
3. Ok, now that you're logged in you need to join our room. Select JOIN A GROUPCHAT then MANAGE YOUR FAVORITE GROUPCHATS
   
4. Next input the following information
   Title: Nightsociete
   Name: *Your username*
   Room: nightsociete
   Server: muc.jappix.com
   Password: You don't need a password to enter into the room
   This should add the chat to your favorites list.
   
5. Next click close
   
6. Select JOIN A GROUPCHAT again, select NIGHTSOCIETE from the drop down and you should join the chat
   
7. Have fun chatting!
   

How to join chat through Pidgin!

BTW peeps, there is a backup chat for when jappix chat goes down (which happens all too frequently), but if jappix is entirely down, you will need to be using a non-jappix account.
go to http://www.jabber.org to sign up for a [user]@jabber.org and there are other servers to choose from as well (you would have to find them on your own).
the backup chat info is:

Room: nightsociete
server: conference.headcounter.org
handle: [nick]
there is no password, so leave it blank.

so, if you want, you can save that info as a chat and put it in a separate group called backup chat or something or just alias it that....

Connecting to XMPP using Pidgin it is simple really, but tedious the first time.

1. From the buddy list of Pidgin, click on ACCOUNTS then click MANAGE ACCOUNTS.
   
2. From the new window click ADD. You should remember the window that pops up.
   
3. Now click the AIM button so it drops a list for you to select XMPP from.
   
4. Enter your username and password, and enter whatever you want for resource(if you are registering now then enter your desired username and password and make sure to click the CREATE THIS NEW ACCOUNT ON THE SERVER)
   
5. The domain is jappix.com
   
6. Click SAVE and you are half way done.
   
7. Now click the little ENABLED button next to your new XMPP account.
   -You should log onto the server just fine now.
   
8. Go back to the BUDDY LIST and click BUDDIES then click ADD CHAT.
   
9. Select the correct XMPP account.
   
10. The room name is nightsociete and again there is no password. Select AUTOJOIN and click ADD.
    
11. You are done. If the room did not open automatically, open it from your buddy list! Start Chattin'!

jappix.com is down in HTTP, I have sent a message to the www node hoster. https://www.jappix.com/ is not down, you can use it!

I found this, i don't know when jappix will be back up, but the HTTPS should for now... you will need to get the proper certificates and trust it or something...

There is a new way to join the chat from the forums. Simply click the "Chat" button at the bottom of the page any most any NS page and it will automatically join the chat. In addition you can continue to browse the forums and the mini-chat will stay connected just like facebook's chatbar.

This new mini-chat can have an auto-join feature as soon as you visit NS. I do not have this enabled at this time. I will put a poll up within the next week after everyone sees this.

IF you don't see the "Chat" button at the bottom, you might have noscript blocking the script it requires. I believe it needs jappix.com and googleapis.com to function properly.

I primarily did this as a way to let skeez join the chat from his phone. You can thank him for getting me on this.

It seems that Jappix has their chat server down ... again...

For the temporary (until i figure out where to move the chat) I have enabled the old on-site chat for emergency purposes. It is located at the top of the Forum homepage.

Strangely enough my school blocks Jappix on Pidgin but I can join through the Facebook chat pretty easily though! :p
